Experience example 01

This Sigmarite Matriarch has earned enough experience to gain 2 statistic upgrade points.

Experience represents how well versed your warriors are in battle. Individual warriors and your warband as a whole gain experience separately providing different bonuses to each.

Warrior Experience[ | ]

As your warriors do battle in Mordheim, they will gain experience which will grant them multiple benefits:

  • Warriors gain attribute points which can be spent on upgrading statistics. Each warrior type gains points at different milestones which can be used to purchase upgrades to Physical, Mental or Martial statistics. These milestones occur multiple times between Ranks, not just when a warrior gains a new Rank.
  • Each time a warrior gains a new Rank they will receive a bonus to their wounds allowing them to take more damage before falling Out of Action. All Leader, Heroes and Henchmen receive the same number of wounds (dependant on the warrior's Toughness Statistic) but Impressive Warriors earn additional wounds due to their naturally impressive nature.
  • At certain Ranks, all warriors receive additional Offense and Strategy Points. Leaders and Impressive Warriors gain the most OP and SP throughout their careers (9OP and 8SP), with Heroes gaining slightly fewer SP (9OP and 7SP) and Henchmen earning the least total OP and SP (5OP and 6SP).
  • At certain Ranks, warriors will earn Skill Points and, if they have the ability to cast spells, Spell Points. These can be spent training skills and spells.
  • At certain Ranks, some Cult of the Possessed warriors will receive a new mutation.

Due to having access to spells and skills, higher ranked warriors are generally more useful in battle. They can withstand damage better than their novice allies and deal out special debuffs and increased damage due to their stat upgrades. Having high ranked warriors in your warband is essential for going toe to toe with the most difficult opponents.

Warriors can gain experience by:

  • Surviving battles: Not falling Out of Action during a battle, whether the battle is won or lost, will grant the warrior 2 experience.
  • Completing Optional Objectives: Completing the Optional Objective grants warriors 3 experience.
  • Decisive Victory: Victory in battles as well as completing any grants the and additional 1 experience.
  • Underdog bonus: If you fight a higher difficulty warband, you will gain bonus experience whether you win or lose. Hard grants +1 experience, Brutal +2 experience and Deadly + 3 experience.
  • Enemies put Out of Action: Landing the killing blow on an enemy grants that warrior an additional experience point. This is stackable so a single warrior may earn many experience points for putting multiple warriors Out of Action.
  • Neutral Enemies killed: Killing a Neutral Enemy will grant the warrior who lands the killing blow 5 experience. This is no small feat but the experience may prove the effort worthwhile!
  • Most valuable warrior: Each battle, one of your warriors will be selected as the most valuable in the battle. This warrior earns 1 additional experience.
  • Near Death Experience: A warrior who falls Out of Action and rolls the injury 'Near Death Experience' will gain 1 additional experience.

Warriors can lose experience by:

  • Amnesia: A warrior who falls Out of Action and rolls the injury 'Amnesia' will lose up to 5 experience. This can offset experience gained in that battle resulting in your warrior losing experience previously earned.

Warband Experience[ | ]

Alongside individual warriors, your warband will gain experience as a whole. Your Warband Rank will influence:

  • The quality of items available in the Shop: Fine and Masterwork weapons and armour will begin to be available for purchase as your warband gains ranks.
  • The number of slots your warband has: When you start the game, you will only be able to field a warband of 5 warriors. As you gain warband ranks, you will be able to hire more warriors, both in active and reserve slots.
  • The type of warrior available to hire: Rank 0 warbands can only hire 1 type of hero (and Hired Swords if you have purchased the DLC). By Rank 5, the warband has access to 3 hero types and an Impressive Warrior type.
  • Warband Cart capacity: The number of items you can put into your cart during battles improves with warband Rank. At maximum Rank, you will be able to store 20 items in your cart.
  • Warband Idol buff effects: The potency of your warband idol's prayer buff effect is as your warband gains Ranks.

Warbands can gain experience by:

  • Battleground Victory: Completing the main objective (routing the enemy warband) grants 2 experience.
  • Decisive Victory: Completing the main and optional objectives grants 4 experience.
  • Defeat: Failing to complete any objective
  • Story Missions: Successfully completing a story mission awards 5 experience to the warband.

The maximum Rank for warriors and warbands is 10. Once a warrior or your warband obtains this Rank, they will no longer gain experience.
